Clevedon Town 2 Weston-super-Mare 0

The sun may have disappeared for the day, but the Seasiders shone throughout the game against our near neighbours from down the M5. On the pitch, things looked pretty even until visitors keeper Ryan Northmore misjudged a speculative near post shot from Josh Brigham and the ball sneaked in between the keeper and the post and into the back of the net. Seven minutes later, Steve Cook latched onto a hit-and-hope from Scott Hendy and lashed the ball into the far side of the net from a position just inside the corner of the penalty box. Half time came with the home side 2-0 to the good.

Clevedon manager Phil Bater had the luxury of making substitutions for the purposes of evaluating players rather than game chasing, and a totally different striking partnership lined up for the second half, Mike Symons and Kyle Bassett replacing Cook and the anonymous-looking Mitchell Page. Weston certainly were not playing like a side that deserved to be in a higher division, and rarely looked like troubling the scoreboard in the second half, despite several forays into the home penalty box. The match finished a surprisingly comfortable 2-0 win for the Seasiders.

Home player of the match was Geraint Bater, showed increasing assurance and composure in the heart of midfield, particularly in the first half. Honourable mention for Josh Brigham, continued to impress in the wing back slot, this time played on the left and looked even better than when he has played on the right.
