Clevedon Town 0 Bashley 0
Clevedon Town welcomed last seasons Southern League Division One South & West Champions Bashley to the Hand Stadium. And it was two hard working sides who played out a match which had draw written all over it from the first kick of the ball!
Manager Phil Bater started with the same line-up that had defeated Yate Town in the previous match. Very few chances were created in the first half as both sides defended in numbers to stifle any forward play, however, the first opportunity to score fell to Clevedon in the 11th minute when Josh Brigham’s right wing cross was blasted over the visitors goal by Kris Leek, Mike Symon’s had a couple of half-chances in front of goal as Bashley were content to defend and rely on rare counter attacks. Clevedon finished the half the stronger of the two sides with Kyle Bassett making a superb run from midfield only to see his excellent strike parried away for a corner by visiting goalkeeper, David Elm.
The second half continued in much the same vain as the first, however, Bashley looked the brighter of the two sides in the opening minutes with strikes from Craig Davis and Ryan Moss. Clevedon continued to be frustrated by a solid Bashley defence as they attempted to break the deadlock with Clevedon’s best attempt coming in the 68th minute, when Mitchell Page had a goal-bound header superbly tipped over the bar by David Elm, minutes later Manager Phil Bater substituted Mitchell Page and Kyle Bassett, with Daine O’Connor and Danny Haines, however, Bashley continued to frustrate the new forward line and the game ended 0-0.
In summary a match dominated by two defences who gave very little away. Bashley is becoming somewhat of a draw specialist this season and must be pleased with a point earned at the Hand Stadium!
