Clevedon Town 0 Banbury United 1

Clevedon Town welcomed Banbury United to the Hand Stadium, A scrappy game saw the Seasiders loose 1-0 after they gifted Banbury with an easy first half goal.

Manager Phil Bater was forced to make changes with Mike Trought injured, and Son Geraint out due to a knee operation, Danny Haines and Christian Sylvester started with Steve Cook on the subs bench after serving a six match suspension.

A scrappy start to the game was to continue throughout the whole match as both sides struggled to keep the ball in what was an ill-tempered game with both sides picking up unnecessary bookings. Clevedon had the better of the first half but gifted Banbury United an easy goal in the 35th minute, when a mix-up between skipper Rob Scott and, goalkeeper Danny Greaves, allowed Troy Bryan to tap into an empty net from two yards. Prior to that goal, veteran Danny Haines was battling hard in midfield with Mitchell Page and Mike Symons coming close on a number of occasions. The Puritans could have increased their lead just before half-time, when a Matt Goodrich shot was turned around the post for a corner, however, the score remained at 1-0 to the visitors.

The home fans were expecting a spirited fight back from the Seasiders, however, it was the visitors who looked the better side, early on... they forced a number of corners which saw Danny Greaves turn another shot around the post from Matt Goodrich, from the resulting corner Puritans skipper Wayne Blossom saw his goal bound strike balloon of the back Kyle Bassett for another corner. On the hour Phil Bater replaced Mike Symons with Steve Cook, minutes later the visitors should have increase their lead when Matt Goodrich’s rebounded shot fell to Sammy Ibrahim who shot over an open goal from six yards out. In the 72nd minute Banbury hit the post with an effort from Ady Fuller. With ten minutes remaining Clevedon started to play with some urgency and came close to equalising when Steve Cooks strike was well saved by the visiting keeper and, Mike Green saw his goal-bound effort cleared off the line by defender Tommy Kinch. In the end Banbury held on for a deserved away win.
