Clevedon Town 2 Yate Town 0
After all the excitement of the FA Cup, Clevedon returned to Premier League action with a deserved 2-0 win against local rivals Yate Town.
Mike Trought, Scott Hendy and Hanin Romhdane all returned to the starting line-up for this local derby against Yate Town. The first half was an even affair with both sides playing at a frantic pace but creating very few chances in front of goal, the first opportunity fell to Yate Town in the 24th minute when Darren Edwards broke through the seasiders defence only for Danny Greaves to make an superb save at the strikers feet. Clevedon opened the scoring in the 38th minute when Jack Pitcher made an excellent run deep from within his own half only to be upended just outside the Bluebells
penalty area, Darren Mullings stepped up to score his first goal for the club with a delightful free kick which sailed over Yate’s wall.
The second half continued in the same vain as the first, with both sides playing at a frantic pace. Clevedon, however, looked the more composed of the two sides with some solid defending, Yate manager Richard Thompson used all of his substitutes in an attempt to carve out an equaliser. The game was effectively over in the 76th minute when a defensive mix-up by defender Scott Brice, and keeper Tony Court allowed Clevedon skipper Leon Hapgood, to nip in and slot the ball past the Bluebells custodian too make it 2-0 and game over. The rest of the half was played out with Jack Pitcher causing all kinds of problems for the visiting defence. Yate mounted a late attack which resulted in a goal-mouth scramble and goal-line clearance to deny the visitors a consolation goal. In the end Clevedon came out deserved winners in an entertaining local derby.
