Yate Town 1 Clevedon Town 4
Clevedon arrived at Yate Town’s Lodge Road Stadium looking to complete a double over The Bluebells
and, it was an emphatic win for the visitors as they beat their local rivals 4-1 to earn three valuable points and move further away from the drop zone.
The heavy pitch was passed fit and Clevedon wasted no time in pressing forward from the start, forcing several corners before taking the lead in the 11th minute when Yate fullback Scott Brice turned in a Craig Davidge cross to make it 1-0 to the Seasiders. Clevedon continued to press forward and Billy Clarke went close with a strong header from Davidge’s corner. Yate were unable to contain the live-wire pace of Pitcher, Davidge and Haines, and it came as no surprise when the Seasiders doubled their lead just before half-time when Matt Rawlins scored with a superb diving header from Craig Davidge’s low cross.
Second half started with Clevedon on the offensive as they looked to kill off any hopes Yate had to get back into this game. The inform Craig Davidge who tormented Bluebells left-back Dave Elsey all afternoon, was again involved when he set up Jack Pitcher whose shot went narrowly wide. In the 55th minute Matt Rawlins had another diving header cleared off the line as Clevedon continued to run Yate ragged. Pitcher was unlucky in the 74th minute when his curling chip came back off the crossbar. However, in the space of two minutes Clevedon doubled their lead when Matt Rawlins scored from the penalty spot after Jack Pitcher was fouled. Within moments of the restart Pitcher ran onto a through ball and coolly slotted the ball past Will Puddy in the home goal. Yate pulled back a consolation goal in the 86th minute when Dave Anyinsah was on hand at the back post to tap home a cross. At the final whistle it was Clevedon who were worthy winners as they received a standing ovation from the traveling supporters.
