Match Report
Clevedon Town 1 Windsor & Eton 3
It was a case of After the Lord Mayor’s Show
for Clevedon as they lost their ten match unbeaten run to an ordinary Windsor & Eton side who took their chances with aplomb to secure their place in the next round.
Clevedon started with great pace and had a Leon Hapgood goal disallowed for off-side as well as Mitchell Page hitting the post in the opening ten minutes of the game, at that stage it looked as if it could be a comfortable afternoon for the hosts, but they were stunned in the 16th minute when O’Connor’s corner was deflected onto Matt Seedel who could hardly miss with a simple header from 3 yards out. This seemed to knock the stuffing out of Clevedon, and they conceded another soft goal in the 38th minute when James Edgerley’s corner was dropped by Danny Greaves to give Will Dunlop a simple header to make it 2-0 to the visitors. Half-time arrived with the Seasiders looking rather listless after their midweek FA Cup exploits and the 2-0 score-line merely highlighted the Royalists
better finishing.
The second-half was only 6 minutes old when Clevedon got back into this game following a well worked goal. Leon Hapgood’s corner was played short to Kris Witcombe whose superb cross was powered home by Jack Pitcher. This lifted Clevedon and they came close to equalising with a Rob Scott long range effort in the 66th minute going just wide. However, it became 3-1 and game over in the 74th minute, another corner for Windsor & Eton was headed home by the unmarked Seedel at the back post. After that it was all Clevedon as they streamed forward with Minabo Asechemie and Tom Jacobs both going close, but there was to be no comeback today for a jaded and injury hit Clevedon side. In summary Windsor & Eton’s better finishing and a poor defensive display lost Clevedon the chance to progress any further in this competition.
