Clevedon Town’s Boxing day encounter with Tiverton Town ended in a 3-0 defeat at Ladysmead with a brace of goals from ex Clevedon player Phil Walsh contributing to a deserved win for the Devonshire side.
Clevedon saw the return of suspended players Leon Hapgood and Danny Greaves, with Manager Phil Bater introducing recent signing Andy Gurney too his starting line up. The first-half started with Tiverton looking the livelier as they pushed forward in search of an opening goal, and it came as no surprise when they scored in the 25th minute, after skipper Chris Holloway had broke through the Seasiders defence, his pass finding Chris Bale whose shot rebounded off Danny Greaves only for ex Clevedon player Phil Walsh to drive home. Clevedon’s best chance of the first-half fell minutes later, when Geraint Bater cut into the box and his close range shot was defected out for a corner. In the 33rd minute Tiverton doubled their lead when Phil Walsh rose unmarked to head home Chris Vinnicombe’s corner kick. First half ended with Tiverton in control and fully deserving their 2-0 lead.
Clevedon came out for the second half with more conviction and pushed forward in search of a goal, however, Tiverton were happy to sit back on their lead defending in numbers stifling any of Clevedon’s attacks. Manager Phil Bater brought on Mitchell Page for Tom Jacobs in an attempt to penetrate Tiverton’s defence, however, the match was over for the seasiders in the 78th minute when defender Mike Booth scored Tiverton’s third goal after slotting home from a corner. Clevedon looked totally dejected and although they pushed forward in search of a consolation goal the game ended with Tiverton deservedly taking all three points.Gallery
