Stamford 3 Clevedon Town 0
Clevedon Town arrived at the Vic Couzens Stadium looking to avenge a 3-2 defeat suffered at the Hand earlier in the season. But it was second placed Stamford who comfortably wrapped up the game and all three points in the first half much to the delight of the home supporters.
The Daniels
opened the scoring in the 15th minute when Martin Wormall shot from inside the area. Clevedon went in search of an early reply but poor approach play and some good defending from the home side meant efforts fell short of previous performances. Disaster struck for the visitors 11 minutes later when the inform Martin Wormall beat Clevedon’s off-side trap to tap in a simple second goal. The Lincolnshire outfit went on to display why they are pushing for promotion with some quality football as Clevedon tried to find their way back into this game, best efforts were a goal-mouth scramble after Jack Pitcher’s shot was blocked, a volley from Hanin Romhdane which went wide, and a Mitchell Page shot which was easily gathered by home keeper Martin Kearney. However, Stamford put the game beyond doubt in the 45th minute when Robbie Harris made it 3-0 with a low shot.
Clevedon looked a better side defensively for the start of the second half, but without regular midfielder's Rob Scott and Andy Gurney they were always going to find it difficult to reduce the 3-0 deficit. Manager Phil Bater introduced his only fit substitute Pete Sheppard who replaced Hanin Romhdane in the 65th minute, the change had little effect and all three points were effectively Stamford’s, as hard as they tried the Seasiders could not find a way back into the match, and the game ended with Clevedon having the last notable attack with a Scott Hendy drive going narrowly wide.
