Match Report
Clevedon Town 3 Northwood 1
Scott Hendy and Mike Trought came through late fitness tests to play in a scrappy match which saw Clevedon take all three points in a deserved 3-1 win at the Hand Stadium and, send Northwood to the bottom of the Premier league.
Both sides made a slow start as they struggled to come to terms with the slippery pitch, however, it was Clevedon who looked the more likely to score as they pushed forward in search of an opening goal, their first opportunity fell to Jack Pitcher when he broke free of The Woods
defence shooting narrowly wide. The opening goal came in the 16th minute, when Mitchell Page beat Northwood’s offside trap to slot the ball past former Mali international goalkeeper Keita Karamoko in the visitors goal. On 25 minutes Karamoko did well to scramble away Andy Gurneys low drive from 20 yards. The Seasider's dominated the rest of the half with Danny Greaves untroubled in the home goal as Northwood failed to register any shots on target.
Second half commenced with Clevedon playing into the wind, as both sides struggled to find any rhythm on the heavy pitch, with an hour played Manager Phil Bater brought on Matt Rawlins for Hanin Romhdane, this change of formation saw Jack Pitcher rise unmarked and head straight at Karamoko from Gurney’s cross. Clevedon doubled their lead in the 73rd minute, when Mitchell Page made a good run on the right, squaring the ball for Jack Pitcher whose forward run ended with him slipping over in the penalty area! however, he was able to shoot the ball underneath the advancing Karamoko from a prone position. Northwood immediately went in search of goal and won their first corner of the match in the 75th minute which resulted in Bradley Hewitt pulling a goal back for the visitors when he tapped home from 6 yards. However, Jack Pitcher put the game beyond doubt in the 83rd minute, when he headed home a powerful header from Kris Witcombe’s superb cross. Northwood’s best player Jerome Hall had a great chance to pull a goal back in the dying minutes of the match, when he skillfully darted into Clevedon’s penalty area only to see his shot scrambled away by Danny Greaves. The final whistle blew and it was Clevedon who deservedly took all three points with a workmanlike performance.
