Match Report

Clevedon Town 1 Maidenhead United 3

A poor showing by the Seasiders saw visitors Maidenhead United come back from being a goal down to deservedly win 3-1 at the Hand Stadium. Manager Phil Bater, included new signing Mike Symons in the line-up, but started with the same side who played Corby Town in the previous game.

A lively start from Clevedon saw them go ahead as early as the 8th minute when Matt Rawlins scored from the penalty spot after Jack Pitcher was unceremoniously brought down in the area by ex Clevedon keeper Francisco Ramos, who earned himself a yellow card for his late challenge. The Magpies were finding it difficult to hold the ball as Clevedon challenged for every ball, however, they slowly took control of the game and, could have scored a number of goals in the first period. On 18 minutes Neville Roach shot from 10 yards out but Danny Greaves pulled off an excellent save to deny the lively striker.

Ten minutes later Maidenhead were awarded a penalty when Mike Trought was adjudged to have handled in the area. Lee Newman stepped up to take the penalty and his low shot into the corner was superbly smothered by Greaves in the home goal. Minutes later Greaves pulled off another fine save to deny Newman after he had jinked his way into the area. Maidenhead continued to put the Seasiders under pressure and it came as no surprise when the visitors scored in the 36th minute, when skipper Dominic Sterling tapped home after Clevedon failed to clear during a goal-mouth melee. The visitors continued to press forward and Danny Greaves pulled off another good save when he tipped Ashley Smith’s long range shot over the bar just before half-time.

Second half saw the visitors continue to dominate proceedings as they went in search of further goals. Clevedon manager Phil Bater introduced new signing Michael Symons for Hanin Romhdane in the 52nd minute. However, Clevedon never looked a threat as they continued to play most of the game in their own half, and it came as no surprise when the visitors took the lead in the 63rd minute, when Grant Cooper’s cross found Neville Roach who struck home from 10 yards. Danny Greaves again pulled off another good save in the 76th minute when he tipped over a Errol Telemacque effort. It was game over for Clevedon in the 85th minute when Grant Cooper scored the visitors third goal from a well taken free kick. Final whistle blew with Maidenhead deservedly taking all three points as Clevedon must pick themselves up for their next home game against league leaders Bath City.
