It was Clevedon Town who took the glory in this local derby as they beat visitors Clevedon United 2-0 to go through to the next round match against Bitton.
The game got of to a slow start and it took 24 minutes for the game to liven up when Steve Lester's well struck shot was grabbed by Danny Greaves at the last moment. Minutes later and a long range effort by Russell Gregory for United went just wide, that seemed to be the wake-up call Town needed and Sheppard had a shot well saved straight afterwards as the Seasiders took the game by the scruff of the neck. However, it was goal-less at half-time and the game then turned controversial in the 59th minute, when United skipper Andy Woodlands clearly pushed Jack Pitcher in the penalty area and a penalty was rightly awarded despite long protests from the United players. This clearly unsettled penalty taker Leon Hapgood and his penalty was well saved to his left by former Town keeper Mark Sallway. United player manager Andy Llewellyn would not let the matter rest however and was eventually sent-off by Somerset referee Mr K Buller for dissent.
After that Town dominated play and eventually took the lead in the 70th minute, when Danny Haines curled a shot home after some excellent approach play by Jack Pitcher. Further chances followed but despite a late flurry from United it was Clevedon Town who sealed the match in injury time, when Jack Pitcher finished a good passing move with Tom Jacobs and substitute Minabo Asechemie. Although Clevedon Town struggled to kill the game off they were always in control of this match.
