Clevedon Town 5 Cirencester Town 1
Clevedon finally got the breaks that there recent hard work deserved, as they convincingly beat Cirencester Town by five-goals-to-one with Matt Rawlins scoring twice and, Craig Davidge giving his best performance for the club so far.
It all started in the 6th minute (just before your match reporter arrived at the ground) when Mike Trought’s free-kick was headed back by Billy Clarke to Craig Davidge whose scorching shot sped past Kevin Sawyer in the visitors goal. Cirencester then created a couple of chances themselves but their finishing was wayward and they were made to pay for those failures when Craig Davidge’s long shot in the 28th minute was only parried by the keeper for Danny Haines to slam home the rebound.
Ten minutes later and with Clevedon showing more confidence than of late it was 3-0, as Matt Rawlins squeezed home a header on the far post from Danny Haines superb cross. Cirencester never gave up but were unable to find their scoring boot’s, and it was Clevedon’s clinical finishing which was the difference as the half-time whistle blew.
Second-half continued in a similar style with both sides doing their best in the wet and muddy conditions. However, it was the Seasiders who added the next goal in the 68th minute. Jack Pitcher’s shot was just going to cross the goal-line when Matt Rawlins tapped in for his second goal of the game. The Centurions
pulled a goal back in the 75th minute when Phil Hall slotted past Danny Greaves after Clevedon lost the ball in midfield.
As the match was drawing to a close with tired legs in abundance, Clevedon restored their four goal margin when Jack Pitcher slotted home Craig Davidge’s cross. The final whistle heralded the end of an excellent performance by the home side, and this should give them the extra confidence they'll need for the final quarter of the season.
