Cirencester Town 1 Clevedon Town 1
Clevedon arrived at the Corinium Stadium looking for 3 valuable away points, In the end both sides settled for a point as they attempt to ease there way up the table. Newcomer’s Craig Davidge and Daine O’Connor were among an almost full strength Clevedon squad as Davidge started the game wearing the No:7 shirt recently vacated by Leon Hapgood.
Both teams had early opportunities with home keeper Kevin Sawyer having to deal with efforts from Andy Gurney, Jack Pitcher and debutante Craig Davidge. The Centurions
first effort came in the 9th minute, however, Davidge continued to impress with a couple of solo runs but both efforts were blocked by the home defence. It was Cirencester who surprisingly took the lead against the run of play when Phil Hall scored with a low drive in the 20th minute. Clevedon were unlucky not to equalise just before half-time when Andy Gurney attempted a spectacular lob from the half-way line, but Kevin Sawyer was on his toes as he tipped the ball just over the bar and maintained Cirencester lead as the half time whistle blew.
Cirencester and Clevedon battled toe-to-toe during the second half with both sides going close, the impressive Davidge again tried his luck from outside the box but yet again his effort was blocked. Andy Gurney duly brought the Seasiders back on level terms in the 60th minute, when his 6 yard shot found the bottom corner. Clevedon thought they had taken the lead only 6 minutes later, however, celebrations were cut short when a lob by Matt Rawlins was adjudged to be off-side. Manager Phil Bater made a couple of late changes when Hanin Romhdane and Debutante Daine O’Connor replaced Matt Rawlins and Jack Pitcher as the Seasiders looked for a winner, in the end both sides settled to share the points.
