Match Report

Bath City 0 Clevedon Town 3

Promotion hopefuls Bath City were given a lesson in finishing as Clevedon came out emphatic winners in this local derby staged at Twerton Park. Clevedon Manager Phil Bater made a few team changes, with Sean Seavill returning from injury and loan signing Hanin Romhdane going straight into the heart of midfield.

Match started with Clevedon immediately going on the offensive with Sean Seavill having two attempts on goal within the first 4 minutes of play. It was no surprise when the Seasiders took the lead in the 7th minute, Billy Clark was fouled on the edge of the area and Leon Hapgood stepped up to score with a well placed Beckham style free-kick. Clevedon doubled their lead 12 minutes later when an excellent pass from Mitchell Page was headed firmly home by Jack Pitcher. The Romans defence was in disarray as the seasiders forwards attacked at will, a mistake by Bath keeper Richard Fey nearly resulted in another goal for Leon Hapgood, however, the Clevedon skipper did not have to wait long for his second goal when he converted Jack Pitcher’s cross to make it 3-0. Bath City had a couple of attempts on Danny Greaves goal with efforts from Scott Rogers and Jim Rollo. The half ended with Pitcher rounding the home keeper but his shot hit the side netting much to the relief of the home supporters.

With a 3-0 advantage Clevedon were happy to sit back during the second-half and contain Bath City with some excellent defensive play. Although Bath’s build up play was entertaining, they just could not convert any of their efforts in front of goal. Scott Rogers and substitute Sekani Simpson both hit the post in a five minute spell. Jack Pitcher made a great run in the 67th minute, his long range chip was tipped out for a corner by Richard Fey in the home goal. With five minutes remaining, Romans Scott Partridge found himself clear on goal but his shot was blocked by Danny Greaves much to the disappointment of the home fans. The final whistle blew with Phil Bater’s Clevedon side extended their unbeaten run to 8 matches and moving up to 14th in the league table.
