Banbury United 2 Clevedon Town 0
The Seasiders first game back in the premier division ended with a 2-0 defeat, in a match of few chances, but Clevedon's second half efforts brought many of the traveling fans to thinking they deserved a point for their efforts.
New signings Danny Greaves, Geraint Bater, Ryan Havard and James Zabek all started the match with Matt Rawlins coming on as a substitute for Pete Sheppard. The first half was a rather dull affair with both sides trying to play the ball on the ground but creating very few chances, in fact the only shot on target led to the only goal of the half when Banbury's Howard Forinton, seized on a loose ball in the penalty area to send the home team ahead in the 38th minute. United's Baird could have doubled the score in injury time but failed to keep his shot down when in a good position.
The second half was only eight minutes underway when Jon Gardner put Banbury 2-0 ahead with a superb 30 yard shot which gave Danny Greaves no chance in the visitors goal. After that Clevedon started to put pressure on the home defence and Tom Jacobs and Matt Rawlins were both unlucky not to open the scoring for Clevedon. Banbury goal keeper Alan Foster was stretchered off in the 80th minute after awkwardly falling and injuring his knee. However despite constant Clevedon pressure they were unable to get onto the score-sheet and Banbury hung on to record a 2-0 win in front of a disappointing crowd of 316.
